💸At Ed. Opal, We're On A Mission💸

Our Mission and Vision

Hi Friends,
Welcome to the latest Ed. Opal blog post. In it, we highlight our company's mission and vision and share how we aim to make a meaningful impact.

🎯 How Missions Are Made

In any quality entrepreneurship course I've taken, the core concept has consistently been this: entrepreneurs find problems worth solving and find ways to solve them. They are so driven by and connected to this problem that they can stick with the attempt to solve it, no matter how difficult that attempt becomes.

A company's mission and vision are usually molded around whatever problem a founder chooses to solve. The mission is usually more focused on what the company is doing right now, whereas the vision is what a company hopes to achieve in the future. Ed. Opal's mission is to deliver culturally relevant personal finance guidance to groups that the U.S. personal finance industry has historically overlooked, especially Black women. Our vision, however, is to create a more equitable world by closing gender and racial wealth gaps.

For those who know me, it may seem true to form that I chose to attempt to solve one of the most significant, most complex problems our world faces today. To solve gender and racial wealth gaps, one would need to address the social, political, educational, and systematic barriers that create the gaps in the first place. It's a multifaceted issue that will require a multidimensional approach from myself and others who find this problem worth solving.

📏 Understanding the Wealth Gap

The wealth gap is not just about income disparity. It's about the cumulative impact of unequal access to opportunities, resources, and support. Historically and in the U.S., Black women have been disproportionately affected by these inequities. Systemic racism, discriminatory lending practices, wage gaps, and limited access to financial education are just a few of the barriers that continue to contribute to this complex issue. At Ed. Opal, our contribution to solving the racial and gender wealth gaps is via education. By delivering culturally relevant personal finance guidance, we aim to address this long-standing issue.

📚 Education as a Key Component

We developed our educational content with Black women in mind. Our courses all fall under four key collection categories.

  1. Money & Mindfulness

  2. Money Basics

  3. Applied

  4. Money History

Each collection approaches financial education from a different vantage point, allowing for a holistic approach to personal financial literacy. We recognize that financial guidance is not one-size-fits-all and that cultural, social, historical, and economic contexts must be considered.

🔭 Looking Towards the Future

Our vision is ambitious, but we are committed to making it a reality. We envision a world where financial equity is the norm, not the exception. We envision a world where everyone, regardless of their background, can obtain financial security for themselves and their loved ones. This journey will require dedication, collaboration, and innovation. It won't be easy, but it'll be worth it.

Thank you for being part of our community and for supporting our mission. Stay tuned for more updates, resources, and upcoming course launches. Your support and engagement are invaluable as we work towards closing gender and racial wealth gaps. Let's continue to empower each other and make a lasting impact.

Warmly,

Khayla
